Oasis Painters of Salt Lake City
There are plenty of painting companies in South Salt Lake and the surrounding valley, and most of them will tell you they do quality work. The hard part for a homeowner is sorting out which ones actually will. Oasis Painters is based at 2384 S West Temple, right here in the city, and we’d rather help you choose well than simply ask for the job.
This page walks through what to look for in a painting company, which questions to ask before you sign, and what we do differently. Either way, you’ll know what good looks like.
Use this checklist on every company you talk to, including us:
Who will actually be on my property, and will the same crew lead be there each day? How many coats, and is that in writing? What do you do about rotted fascia or swollen siding, and how is that priced? Do you wash the house first, and how do you handle the soot that settles on everything near the interstate? What paint, exactly, and why that one?
Then ask about the calendar. A company that will start an exterior in late November, or paint a west wall at two in the afternoon in July, is not thinking about how the job holds up. Ask what happens if rain moves in mid-project, and what the warranty covers. Finally, ask to see work. Our gallery is a start.
We’re locally owned and operated, not a franchise, and our shop sits a block off State Street in the city we serve. Here’s how we answer our own checklist:
Thinking about a project in South Salt Lake? Get a clear, written proposal from a local crew.
As a full-service company we handle interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet refinishing, and the duplex, fourplex and townhome HOA work that a renter-majority city like South Salt Lake generates. Many of our clients start with one room and come back for the whole exterior the following spring.
The homes here span 1920s bungalows, 1950s brick ramblers and townhomes finished in the last few years. Each one gets the right products: breathable acrylic on stucco, bonding primer on aluminum, lead-safe handling on old wood trim, and enamel on doors and cabinets. We work the exterior season from mid-April to late October and paint interiors year-round. Our house painters page details the full-home service, and our exterior painting guide covers seasonal timing.
We don’t publish prices because two houses of the same size can need very different amounts of prep. What we do promise is a proposal you can compare line by line against anyone else’s. It will list the surfaces being painted, the surfaces being excluded, the specific repairs and their cost, the product line and coat count, the start window and expected duration.
If another company’s price is far lower, look for what’s missing: one coat instead of two, no primer, no caulk, no wash, carpentry left as an open-ended allowance. If it’s far higher, ask what you’re getting for it. A fair proposal is one you fully understand, and we’ll walk you through ours at the free consultation.
Ask the company for its contractor license number and a certificate of insurance, then check the license with the state’s licensing division online. Any reputable company, including ours, will provide both without hesitation.
It’s reasonable to, especially on a large exterior. Make sure each proposal lists the same scope, surfaces, coats and repairs so you’re comparing like with like. The lowest number is often leaving something out.
A South Salt Lake company has a reputation on your street to protect, arrives on time because the shop is minutes away, and comes back for touch-ups without a fuss. It also knows the local housing, from pre-war bungalows to new townhomes.
Every surface in and out of scope, the prep steps, carpentry repairs as a separate line, the product line and number of coats, color notes, a start window and expected duration, and the warranty terms. You’ll have it before any work is scheduled.
For most painting projects we handle everything, including minor carpentry repairs to trim, fascia and siding, caulking, and cabinet refinishing. If a job needs extensive structural work, we’ll tell you up front rather than painting over a problem.
